Venturer Scout or Youth Ages 15-18
Week 1: Solar Energy Cooker Challenge
Build and use a solar energy cooker capable of heating at least 1 litre of water as hot as possible. It can be any design you choose – parabolic, reflector etc. Submit your entry by Thursday. Take a picture of the cooker with a thermometer in the water so we can see the temperature. Be prepared for a follow-up challenge using your cooker on Friday.
The Friday challenge can be as simple as “heat up a can of soup for your family for lunch” to as complex as prepare an entire meal for your family. Now use the cooker to make something yummy and share the recipe and a picture of you and your family enjoying it!
Do some research on how to build a Solar cooker, many possible designs are available on the internet; from re-purposing a pizza box to re-purposing satellite dish. Remember to Plan–Do-Review. Post you videos and pictures; your successes and failures. Discus your "PLAN", Record your progress (DO), and "REVIEW" your outcomes on the Facebook Group; CV-JAM 2020: Venturer Scout Sub-Camp.

Week 2: Short Film Challenge
Let’s work together to film and then produce a short video showcasing Venturer Scouting activities. In the past week I’ve seen many collaborations of groups working together to make fun videos. For example, a softball team played virtual catch with each other. Choirs are singing. So – what ideas can we put forth for Scouting activities that we can use to make a similar video. Let’s start there – just post your ideas to the CV-Jam 2020 Venturer FB page. Once we have some ideas we can choose one and get started filming. This can really draw us together – think about the possibilities. Think BIG. Country wide. A reasonable timeline for this would be 2 days to brainstorm ideas – we close on one Wednesday morning and start filming. Saturday or Sunday we pull it all together and next Monday we post our masterpiece. There is nothing stopping you from filming a short video to support your suggestion as we collect the ideas. Have fun with it.
Week 3: Hocus Pocus!
Magic! Let’s post videos of ourselves performing our best/favourite magic tricks. Card tricks, slight of hand, amazing basketball shots, disappearing/reappearing items, dare I say rope tricks? I need a bit of time to practice mine – I haven’t done it since New Year’s eve 2017 during our annual family talent show. Prepare to be amazed. Look for mine on or before Thursday. I can’t wait to see what you’all are capable of. Let’s keep it safe out there – no spontaneous combustion or daring feats of athleticism. Just good ole’ magic.
